Narconon, meaning ‘no drugs’ or ‘narcotics none’ began with one addict who needed a solution for his substance abuse problem. William Benitez, who had struggled with heroin addiction most of his life, was serving time for a drug related offense when he stumbled upon a book in the prison library written by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. The information in the book was what Benitez was looking for to help him handle his own addiction; something he had been trying to find for, for many years; a real solution for permanent sobriety.
Because of his own personal success, Benitez soon started working with other inmates behind the prison walls and since that time Narconon has grown and operates 150 drug rehab and education centers in 40 different countries servicing thousands of addicts and families every year who need help with substance abuse issues.
The Narconon program in Michigan is one center that has been open for nearly eight years. Narconon Michigan or Narconon Freedom Center was also opened by a Narconon graduate; for whom the technology used in the program saved his life. Today, the center helps several hundred addicts every year, achieving a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety.
Narconon Freedom Center is located in Albion, Michigan and is nestled in a quiet, semi-residential area. The building is 58,000 square feet and is situated on 10 acres. Freedom Center is surrounded by large oak trees and the back of the property is wooded and peaceful; an ideal environment for recovery.
Narconon has its own unique method for treatment; that an individual can permanently recover from substance abuse and that addiction is not a disease. Clients who enroll in the Narconon program are helped through 100% drug free methods using a sauna detoxification program to help reduce physical drug cravings and life skills therapy courses to help handle all the mental and emotional components of addiction.
Narconon Freedom Center is one of the most successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in the country and is based on results.
Every day more and more people are freed from addiction because of Narconon and as a result Narconon continues to expand. Narconon Freedom Center is a key example of this; an example of how one person can make a difference.
