Lakers Win Game 1 of West Finals

An Injured Kobe Leads LA to Victory

Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers overwhelmed the Phoenix Suns in Game 1 of the West NBA Finals. The Suns took an early lead, but it did not take long for the Lakers to turn things around and end the first quarter ahead by 9 points. Kobe Bryant, who barely practiced during the past week because of a bad knee, scored an amazing 40 points, 21 of which came during an explosive third quarter; he nearly broke the all-time Lakers record for most points in a single playoff quarter (22, set by basketball legend Elgin Baylor). Pau Gasol, who has worked superbly with Bryant during the 2010 playoffs, recorded 21 points. Lamar Odom also had a great game, with 19 rebounds and 19 points by the end of the game; he was also instrumental in helping the Lakers overcome the early Suns score advantage. After the game, Bryant said of his amazing performance, "Just being aggressive, playing my game. Got shots, took them. Got lanes to the basket, took them." Game 2 of the West Finals takes place Wednesday at 9:00 PM ET. Also, don't miss out on Game 2 of the East Finals Series between the Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics, which takes place tonight, Tuesday, at 8:30 PM ET.
