Indiana Congressman Mark Souder Admits Affair, Resigns

Indiana congressman Mark Souder admitted Tuesday to having an affair with a longtime staffer. Souder, a conservative Christian, also announced his resignation.

"It is with great regret I announce that I am resigning from the U.S. House of Representatives as well as resigning as the Republican nominee for Congress in this fall's election," Souder said in a statement. “I sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part time member of my staff... I am so shamed to have hurt those I love."

Souder refused to name his mistress, but insiders have identified her as Tracy Meadows Jackson. Jackson joined Souder’s staff in 2004 as a host for his daily radio spot on a Ft. Wayne Christian radio station.

Souder has three grown children with his wife, Diane Zimmer Souder.
