Los Angeles Standoff Ends after Gunman Killed by SWAT Team

The Los Angeles standoff involving a man who barricaded himself inside a house after reportedly killing three relatives and a member of a SWAT team ended moments ago after he was shot and killed by officers.

 

On Wednesday night the man called police and reported that he had killed three relatives inside the house. After officers arrived they entered the house and were hit by gunfire. SWAT team members were able to get the men out of the house and rushed them to Northridge Medical Center where one of the men, 51-year-old Randal Simons, was pronounced dead just after 1:00 a.m.

 

James Veenstra was the second officer shot and he was undergoing surgery for a serious injury but he is expected to survive.

 

The standoff continued through the night and extended into the mid morning as more than 200 officers surrounded the house. They attempted to get the man out using tear gas. The events leading to the man being shot have not been released.
