South Korea’s Foreign Minister Calls North Korea’s Role in Sinking of Navy Warship “Obvious”

South Korea’s foreign minister Yu Myung-hwan has called North Korea’s involvement in the sinking of a navy warship that killed 46 sailors “obvious,” a claim that could be substantiated when the results of an investigation launched by a multinational team are announced.

North Korea has denied any involvement in the sinking of the Cheonan warship on March 26 but the popular belief has been that a torpedo strike sunk the ship. Giving further credence to that belief is the fact the incident occurred near the disputed inter-Korean maritime border, the Northern Limit Line.

Up until this point South Korea has not directly pointed the finger at North Korea but if enough evidence is gathered to implicate their neighbor the issue could be taken to the United Nations and result in a number of sanctions.

The findings of the investigation by a team of experts from the United States, UK, Australian and Sweden are expected to be announced on Thursday. There have been a number of reports that have suggested those findings will support the accusation that the warship was destroyed as a result of a torpedo strike launched by North Korea.
