Ron Paul has vowed to continue his presidential campaign but will do so with a little less vigor as he begins to concentrate on his congressional re-election bid.
The Texas Republican posted a message on his Web site on Friday explaining his decision to shift his focus to the upcoming congressional election. In that message he noted his obligation to his state supporters saying, “I have another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that happen.”
While Paul recognized his chances of capturing the Republican nomination were slim he ruled out the idea of running as a third party in the upcoming presidential election, “I do not denigrate third parties… just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican.”
