Mike Huckabee Tells “Meet the Press He has No Desire to be Vice President

Just one day after capturing big victories in Kansas and Louisiana former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee appeared on “Meet the Press” and told Tim Russert he had no desire to become the next vice president.

While Huckabee remains a long-shot to capture the Republican nomination he remains steadfast in his desire to carry the battle forward and challenge John McCain all the way to the Republican National Convention.

When asked by Russert if he wanted to be McCain’s running mate Huckabee answered “No I really don’t.” He then went on to say the likelihood of being asked was slim as there were several people ahead of him on that list, “I'm not going to be asked. It's pretty evident that there would be a whole lot of people on the list long before me and one of them would say yes.”

Huckabee almost jokingly told Russert the question should be whether he would select McCain as a running mate. The presidential hopeful then commented that McCain still needs to reach the 1,191 delegates before the convention to secure the nomination. If that number is not reached then the Republican nominee will be decided at the convention.

McCain is expected to add to his 719 delegates on Tuesday with reported leads in Maryland and Virginia but Huckabee has said he will do better than what most people expect.
