Paintings from Cezanne, Degas, van Gogh and Monet Stolen from Zurich Museum

More than $163 million worth of paintings from Cezanne, Degas, van Gogh and Monet were stolen from a Zurich museum on Sunday in what is being called the largest art heist in Switzerland history.

The four paintings included Paul Cezanne’s “Boy in the Red Waistcoat,” Edgar Degas’ “Ludovic Lepic and his Daughter,” Vincent van Gogh’s “Blooming Chestnut Branches,” and Claude Monet’s “Poppy field at Vetheuil.”

According to police three gunmen entered the E.G. Buehrle Collection, a private museum noted for its Impressionist and post-impressionist works, about a half-hour before closing. One man used a pistol to force those inside to the ground while the other two collected the paintings.

The three thieves then escaped in a white vehicle that was parked in front of the museum. A reward of nearly $90,000 has been offered for information leading to the recovery of the paintings.
