Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE:AAP) jumped 7.25% to $49.43 after Auto parts retailer Advance Auto Parts Inc (AAP.N) posted first-quarter results that beat market estimates, partly helped by new store openings, and reaffirmed its full-year operating earnings outlook. The retailer, which operates under trade names such as Advance Discount Auto Parts and Western Auto, kept its estimated 2010 operating earnings outlook of $3.20 to $3.40 a share.

Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) fell over 2% to $29.74 after its quarterly results topped expectations, helped by a recovery in corporate spending and international growth, but the design software maker remained cautious about its full-year results citing uncertainties surrounding the European economy.
Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) slid 1.15% to $12.87 after the world's largest producer of chip-making gear, posted a second quarter profit as customers added capacity to take advantage of growing demand for consumer electronics, especially in emerging markets. All of its business lines, except the solar division, were profitable during with fiscal second quarter ended May 2 and showed strong sequential growth. Net sales in the company's silicon systems alone increased 45 percent over the first quarter.
