Bride Kim Sjostrom Dies During First Dance At Wedding

A bride died hours after marrying her fiancé in Davie, Florida. Kim Sjostrom had been married for less than an hour when she suddenly collapsed during the first dance with her new husband Teddy Efkarpides.

The 36-year-old had complained of light headedness during the dance. Efkarpides, 43, thought Sjostrom needed sugar as she was a diabetic. After she collapsed, all attempts to revive her failed. She had died of heart disease.

The teacher wanted a real-life version of the movie ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding.’ The ceremony was planned by her co-workers and held at Davie Elementary School, where she taught first grade.

As a child, Sjostrom was the face for juvenile diabetes. Her face had appeared on millions of posters, some posted on New York subways.

Efkarpides, a carpenter and Navy Veteran, says he reads a list that Sjostrom made him for their first Christmas. The list is ‘101 Reasons Why I Love You.’ Number 98 is, “You’re the one I want to grow old with.”
