Mazda’s Prized Compact Model to Finally Reach the U.S.

May 25, 2010, Quincy, MA… Boston drivers will see a flashy new compact car on the road this summer.  Mazda is set to release the sleek and sporty 2011 Mazda2 in the U.S. this July.  It should be a solid contender in the small car market, competing with the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit.  Though new to North America, the Mazda hatchback has been a monumental success overseas for the last few years.  Since its introduction in 2007, the Mazda2 has received 48 automotive awards.  Most notably, the Mazda2 won “World Car of the Year” at the New York International Auto Show in 2008.    In that same year, the Mazda2 won “Car of the Year” in several markets including Japan and New Zealand.

In light of the poor economy and perpetual rise in gas prices, U.S. consumers have indicated a strong interest in buying more affordable, fuel-efficient cars.  Given the Mazda2’s foreign success and the current demand for well built compact cars here in the U.S., it was only a matter of time until the Mazda2 showed up stateside. 

In congested cities like Boston, Massachusetts the need for high performing compact cars like the Mazda2 is especially high.  Crowded streets and volatile driving conditions are an everyday reality for locals.  Boston Mazda, Quirk Mazda, is anxiously awaiting the arrival of this vehicle, which General Manager Phil Ternullo thinks will be ideal for urban driving.

One of the most affordable cars in its class, The Mazda2 is set to start at an MSRP $13,980.  “The perfect balance of price, fuel economy and performance, the Mazda2 provides an exhilarating driving experiencing while delivering a solid 28 mpg in city driving and 35 mpg highway”, said Ternullo.  “We expect to have the 2011 Mazda2 in stock later this year.”
