In a holistic drug rehab program such as the one conducted at G&G Holistic Drug Rehab, the body, mind, and spirit (or, if you prefer, physical, mental, and emotional aspects) are all considered together when staff members are determining what substance abuse trigger may be occurring or have occurred in a client’s life. In this way, the counselors and other staff members will know the areas that need the most concentration during the rehab program.
An example of a physical substance abuse trigger can be a genetic predisposition to addiction. In order to ascertain this, the client may be asked, in a respectful, non-judgmental way, if there is a history of substance abuse in his immediate family. If the answer is yes, then the genetic predisposition may be present.
A person’s environment, both while he was growing up and his current one, may also serve as a substance abuse trigger. Childhood abuse or constant turmoil, with or without episodes of abuse may affect a client both mentally and emotionally. It may have been childhood and adolescent experiences which first led to one trying drugs or alcohol, which ultimately to addiction.
The lack of a spiritual foundation or more unfortunately, being exposed to a spiritual experience that brought on feelings of guilt or even served to diminish a client’s self esteem may be a substance abuse trigger. This can be especially true if one was unfortunate enough to be caught up in the child abuses that have so recently made headlines.
Once the well-trained staff at G&G Holistic Drug Rehab has determined what may serve as a substance abuse trigger, they will work with the client to formulate a drug rehab program that will address these issues as well as any others which may have contributed to substance abuse. These issues will be treated with sensitivity and respect, and clients will be helped to find ways of coping with them.
Nothing much can be done about genetic predisposition; however, the client will be shown other ways of obtaining pleasure without having to resort to substance abuse. In addition, because of our nutritional programs, exercise programs, and other physical treatment methods used, he may find himself feeling so much better overall physically that the desire to maintain the good health and feelings of well-being override any pull genetics may have on him.
