Man Holding Children Hostage in Italian Day Care Center

A man wielding a box cutter has taken several children hostage at an Italian day care center in the southern town of Reggio Calabria. The man barricaded himself inside the facility with 11 children and a teacher but has since released five of the children.

According Reggio Calabria police the man had demanded to speak to journalists and allowed a cameraman from RAI state television inside the building.

Statements made by the man appear to indicate that he has been upset by recent problems he has had with the judicial system but he did not elaborate.
