Air India Express Flight Overshoots Runway in Mangalore, 159 Reportedly Killed in Fiery Crash

An Air India Express flight travelling from Dubai overshot the runway while attempting to land in Mangalore, bursting into flames and leaving at least 159 people dead.

Officials have said eight passengers managed to survive the Air India Express crash with one managing to avoid injury, four suffering minor injuries and three now listed in serious condition.

Survivors aboard the flight told officials they heard a bursting sound just as the plane touched down, indicating a tire may have blown out. Once hitting the ground the plane then veered off the runway, plunged into a valley and hit a number of trees, bursting into flames.

All 160 passengers were said to be Indian nationals, many of whom had been working in the Gulf and were returning home to visit family in southern India. As many as 20 children were said to be aboard the doomed flight.

An investigation into the crash has already been launched and searchers are now looking for the flight data and voice black box recorders.
