Death Toll from Car Bomb in Iraq’s Northern Diyala Province Climbs to 30

The death toll from Friday’s car bombing attack in Iraq’s northern province of Diyala has climbed to 30 and that number could go higher as a number of the injured remain in serious condition.

Friday’s blast ripped through a busy market in the mainly Shia town of Khalis, the second time in two months the town has seen a high death toll from a major bombing.

According to witnesses the police had been securing the market when the car containing the explosives was set off. It is not known how the car managed to elude police and park in front of a coffee shop prior to the bombing, a fact that enraged many in the area.
