HolidayLEDs.com Extends Recycling Program Indefinitely

HolidayLEDs.com, an e-commerce company specializing in energy-efficient LED holiday and decorative lighting, announced today that it will extend its Christmas light recycling program indefinitely.

“The program was scheduled to conclude on January 31, 2008 but we have received a steady flow of emails from people since then asking us to accept their lights for recycling,” said Michael J. O’Connor of HolidayLEDs.com.  O’Connor estimates that its Christmas light recycling program has yielded more than 3,000 pounds of lights to date.  “Quite honestly, the program takes a lot of time and this becomes more of an obstacle in the off-season when we have limited staff but we’ve had such a strong response its hard to turn people away that are so committed to recycling,” O’Connor added.

The lights received by HolidayLEDs.com are initially processed in its facility in Jackson, MI where any packaging material or similar items are removed.  The lights are then stock-piled in a warehouse until a sufficient quantity has been received in order to maximize the efficiency of the recycling process.  The lights are then transported to a local recycling company which processes the old Christmas lights in a commercial shredder.  The shredder chops the lights into small pieces which are then sorted and separated into the various components that make up the lights including PVC, copper, and glass.

“We decided that we’d continue to do this as long as people continue to participate,” said Philip C. Curtis of HolidayLEDs.com.  “We’ve developed a really wonderful and environmentally conscious customer base and we are happy to be able to provide them with this service,” Curtis added.
