Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is planning to endorse of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). The endorsement will take place Thursday afternoon at Romney for President headquarters in Boston at 3:30pm ET.
Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, dropped out of the GOP presidential race on Feb. 7. Romney made the announcement at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.
Romney made the decision this morning. He called his campaign aide and told him to call the McCain campaign to alert them of his decision. Romney will also urge that the delegates he accumulated in the primaries in turn show their support for McCain in the general election in November.
Romney joins former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani as former GOP presidential candidates who have given their endorsements for McCain.
McCain currently has a large lead for delegates amongst current Republican presidential candidates and is expected to win the nomination. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) are still in the race, looking to upset McCain.
