Landslide in China Causes Passenger Train to Derail, at least 19 Dead

At least 19 people are dead and more than 70 left injured after a landslide in southeast China caused a passenger train to derail, sending carriages slamming into one and other.

According to reports the train, travelling from Shanghai to the tourist area of Guilin, slammed into dirt and debris that had covered the track in a mountainous area of Jiangxi province following a landslide. Unable to stop, the passenger train crashed directly into the obstructions.

More than 2,000 rescuers have been on the scene searching through the wreckage for survivors who rain trapped.

Severe flooding brought on by heavy rains has been blamed for the landslide.
