NIU Campus Now Secure as Gunman Dead

According to the Chicago Sun Times the gunman, described as a white male, who shot up to 18 individuals on the campus of Northern Illinois University is dead. It is not known if the gunman was shot or if he killed himself.

The Northern Illinois University campus updated their Web site and stated “Campus police report that the immediate danger has passed. The gunman is no longer a threat. The DeKalb campus is closed tomorrow. Students can go to any residence hall for counseling. “

There have been no updates in regard to injuries sustained in the shooting that took place inside Kohl Hall at the DeKalb campus.

Northern Illinois University is located about 60 miles west of Chicago.
