Gunman Dead in Northern Illinois University School Shooting

The gunman responsible for the school shooting at Northern Illinois University Thursday is dead. It is not known yet if he committed suicide or was killed by police.

The shooting happened in Kohl Hall on the Dekalb campus around 3:20pm CST. Early reports say that 18 people were shot. There is no word if there have been any casualties, but several students were taken away from campus via ambulances.

Classes were cancelled at 3:40pm CST, according the NIU website, and classes are cancelled for tomorrow as well. Psychologists will be available on campus tomorrow to offer counseling to students.

The gunman has not been identified yet, but it is confirmed that he is dead.
