Van Halen
will be performing live at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio
on Wednesday, March 5.
A hard rock band from Pasadena California,
Van Halen was formed in 1972 and released their self titled debut album in
1978. The band sold over 80 million albums worldwide by the year 2007 and has
had several number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.
Although the Recording Industry Association of America reports that the band is
the 19th best selling band of all time, with salves of over 56 million albums
in the US,
Van Halen may be better known for the dramatic exits of its former band
members. Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth left the band several times and were
constantly surrounded by controversy and mass press coverage. Michael Anthony,
the founding bassist, was recent kicked off of the band for controversial
reasons. Yet despite the band’s inner turmoil, Van Halen was inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12, 2007.
Formerly the Riverfront
Coliseum, The Crown and Firstar Center, the now named US Bank Arena is located in
downtown Cincinnati, Ohio
next to the Great
American Ball
Park. Construction for
the facility was completed in 1975 and accommodates 12,823 guests for ice
hockey.
The arena has hosted concerts, political rallies, tennis tournaments, figure
skating and other events such as a Billy Graham Crusade. The first performer to
appear on the venue’s stage was the Allman Brothers who were followed by Led
Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Elvis Presley. The US Bank Arena was Elvis’ second to
last performance on June 25 1977.
