The man responsible for killing six students at a lecture hall on the campus of Northern Illinois University before killing himself had been a well received student at the school and had earned a pair of honors while an undergraduate.
Steven Kazmierczak, 27, had been involved in student government, a proponent of social justice and had been widely regarded as a stand-out student during his time at NIU. Kazmierczak left the school following last spring semester and transferred to another area college.
Kazmierczak entered a lecture hall on the campus of NIU on Thursday and opened fire with a shotgun and two pistols, killing six students and himself while wounding at leats 15 others.
