Joran van der Sloot Wont Be Arrested Despite Confession

Joran van der Sloot will not be rearrested in the murder of Natalee Holloway despite his taped confession. An Aruban court ruled that the 20-year-old could not be arrested solely on the confession.

A friend of Sloot’s secretly taped the confession while inside a vehicle. Sloot is heard saying that he and the 18-year-old were on the beach when she suddenly began shaking and collapsed. He said he called a friend to help dispose of her body in the sea. He denies that the video was a confession and insists he was only telling his friend what he wanted to hear.

Holloway went missing in May 2005 while on a senior trip to Aruba. Her body has not been found.

The court ruled that Sloot could not be rearrested because of the possibility of “a serious personality disorder.” “Considering the possibility of a serious personality disorder – as voiced by the prosecution – combined with a personal history of untrue statements and remarks, which even according to the suspect himself are frequently false, the Court of Appeals has reasons for doubt regarding the incriminating character of the ‘car-statement,’” said the court.

Sloot still remains a suspect.
