Tracey Wygal Loses 120 Pounds in Three Years

Tracey Wygal, a West Virginia middle school teacher, lost 120 pounds in three years.

Wygal, 30, now does cardio exercise, strength trains and follows what she calls a "clean diet" after tipping the scales at 295 pounds eight years ago.

After years of being diagnosed with morbid obesity, a physician handed her a 1,600-calorie-a-day diet and told her to start adhering to it. After initial rejection, Wygal began the diet, detailing her food intake into her personal food diary.

Over the next three years, she lost 120 pounds and dropped seven dress sizes. Wygal, who stands at 5-foot-10, fluctuates between 170 and 180, but is staunch about never returning to her 295-pound frame.

Wygal, a Martinsburg resident who teaches at James Wood Middle School in Winchester, offered several tips in an article on CNN.com: keep a food diary, be consistent in exercise, find a gym that accomodates your lifestyle, change your outlook on food, be realistic in goals, and to make the diet a priority in your life without making excuses.
