Manny Pacquiao Hospitalized

Filipino Boxing Champ Admitted to Hospital

Filipino boxing great Manny Pacquiao was admitted to a hospital on Sunday after a routine checkup revealed that the 31-year-old world welterweight champion had an ulcer. After the discovery was made, Pacquiao's family convinced him to stay in a Manila hospital for a few days. "Really, Manny can only rest if you confine him to a hospital," said Pacquiao's chief of staff, Jayke Joson. Pacquiao, who is widely considered to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, recently won a seat in the Philippine's House of Representatives, a position that he will assume on June 30. Joson said about Pacquiao's campaigning for the May 10 congressional elections that "It's been so intense a campaign, he missed some of his meals." Pacquiao's mother, Dionisia, says that Manny might be discharged on Monday or Tuesday. Meanwhile, Pacquiao's promoters still plan to negotiate a match against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (Sources: ESPN.com and the Associated Press)
