Iran Submits Nuclear Deal to IAEA in Hopes of Gaining Reactor Fuel

Iran has submitted a nuclear deal to the International Atomic Energy Agency in which the country would swap nuclear material in Turkey for reactor fuel.

While Iran is hoping to see the deal accepted by the IAEA and world powers the likelihood of that happening appears to be dimming as the United States has already called for new sanctions.

The nuclear program of Iran has been the subject of great debate over the past few years and despite Iran’s insistence that the program was being developed for peaceful purposes there are many who believe their main goal is to develop nuclear weapons.

As part of the new deal, brokered by Brazil and Turkey, Iran would exchange low-enriched nuclear material in Turkey for fuel rods for a research reactor.

That is a similar deal crafted by France, Germany, the UK and the United States last year but that deal is no longer on the table because those countries now believe for the past year Iran has continued to create the highly-enriched material necessary for a nuclear weapon.
