Rafael Nadal had little trouble marking his return back to the clay courts of Roland Garros, winning his first round match against Gianni Mina in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to move into the second round at the French Open.
Nadal relied on consistency, putting 68 percent of his first serves in play and then winning 71 percent of those points. He also managed to convert six of his twelve break-point opportunities while never surrendering break-point of his own despite Mina having nine opportunities.
Nadal is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2009 French Open where he fell in the fourth round to Robin Söderling. Before that surprising loss Nadal had won the previous four French Open titles. He also has an Australian Open title under his belt as well as a Wimbledon championship, leaving only the U.S. Open as the only Grand Slam event the 23-year-old Spaniard hasn’t won.
