Man Found Dead after Falling 300 Feet at Grand Canyon

National Park Rangers at the Grand Canyon believe the man they discovered on Friday died after falling almost 300 feet from an area along the edge of the South Rim of the park.

Searchers discovered an abandoned car on Wednesday and by Friday they had discovered several personal items near a picnic area. A technical team was then deployed and the body of the man was found late that evening almost 300 feet below a rim.

It wasn’t until Saturday that rangers were actually able to have the body airlifted out and it was taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office in Flagstaff, Arizona for an autopsy.

Conditions around the South Rim were said to be extremely icy and there are several spots that are not protected by rails.
