Russia Warns Relationship with U.S. Could Suffer Due to Surface-to-Air Missiles in Poland

Russia has spoken out strongly against the United States decision to position a number of Patriot surface-to-air missiles in Poland, about 40 miles from the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.

Addressing the issue Russia’s foreign ministry released a statement reading “Military activities like these do not contribute to strengthening our common security, developing relations of trust and predictability in the region.”

The statement went on to say, “We have more than once stated that we do not understand the logic and focus of US-Polish co-operation in this sphere.”

On Sunday the U.S. missiles were delivered to the military base at Morag where U.S. troops will be stationed to operate the missiles as well as train their Polish counterparts to do the same.

According to the U.S. the Patriot missiles are designed to intercept surface-to-surface missiles.
