Robin Soderling needed just over an hour to breeze into the third round of the French Open as he took apart Taylor Dent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 at Roland Garros on Wednesday.
Soderling as just dominant as he picked up points on 84 percent of his first serves put in play and struck 24 winners in the short match. As for Dent, the American could never get anything going as Soderling feasted on his serve, breaking him on eight of his twelve opportunities. Dent managed points on just 38 percent of his first serves put in play and had five winners on the day.
Soderling had never made it past the third round of a Grand Slam prior to the 2009 French Open where he eventually finished runner up to Roger Federer. He then reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2009, a personal best and then reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open the same year. He is trying to get past his brutal Australian Open performance where he was bounced out in the first round.
