When a Hollywood star battles addiction, their kids often struggle with addictions of their own or issues related to their parents’ problems. Two recent news stories illustrate that all too clearly.
More than a decade after his famous mom died of a drug overdose, Tyler Lambert committed suicide at the age of 25. The son of troubled Diff’rent Strokes actress Dana Plato reportedly died of a gunshot wound to the head on May 6, according to People.com. His grandmother, Joni Richardson, claims he had been experimenting with drugs and alcohol, a factor she believes contributed directly to his death.
Plato died of a prescription drug overdose in May 1999. She was 36 years old.
O’Neal’s Addictions
Meanwhile, Redmond O’Neal, son of Ryan O’Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett, recently graduated from a drug rehab facility to a sober living environment. The 25-year-old has been incarcerated for a 2008 drug arrest and probation violation that kept him in jail during his mom’s last days.
Redmond’s half-sister, actress Tatum O’Neal, and half-brother, Griffin O’Neal have also battled addiction issues for years and their father has a long history of drug use and arrests.
