Owner of Chimp that Mauled Charla Nash Dies

Sandy Herold, the owner of the chimpanzee that mauled Charla Nash, has died. A lawyer for Herold confirms she died Monday night of a ruptured aortic aneurysm.

"Ms. Herold had suffered a series of heartbreaking losses over the last several years, beginning with the death of her only child, then her husband, then her beloved chimp Travis, as well as the tragic maiming of friend and employee Charla Nash. In the end, her heart, which had been broken so many times before, could take no more,” her lawyer said in a statement.

Herold made headlines in February 2009 when her 200 pound chimp, Travis, attacked her friend Charla Nash. Nash was left faceless and lost most of both hands.
