NOAA Predicts Busy Hurricane Season for U.S.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has predicted a busy hurricane season for the United States, forecasting 14 to 23 named storms with as many as 14 developing into hurricanes in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.

According to the NOAA three to seven of those hurricanes could be classified as major, reaching category three or higher status.

Jane Lubchenco of the NOAA stated “If this outlook holds true, this season could be one of the more active on record. She went in to say, “The greater likelihood of storms brings an increased risk of a landfall. In short, we urge everyone to be prepared.”

The hurricane season for the Atlantic stretches from June 1 until the end of November.
