Major Earthquake Near Vanuatu Sparks Tsunami Warning for Islands in South Pacific

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake near Vanuatu has sparked a tsunami warning for islands in the South Pacific including the Solomon islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center “An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines in the region near the epicenter within minutes to hours.”

That epicenter is said to be 133 miles northwest of Santo on the island of Vanuatu, located along the Ring of Fire in the Pacific basin.
