Rush will be
performing live at the New Orleans Arena on April 19 at 7:30 pm.
Formed in
Toronto, Ontario in 1968, the Canadian rock band Rush has influenced modern
musicians such as Metallica, the Smashing Pumpkins and Primus as well as
progressive metal bands such as Dream Theater and Symphony X. The band has become known for their
instrumental virtuosity, complex compositions and eclectic lyrical motifs which
draw from such topics as science fiction, fantasy, libertarian philosophy and
addresses humanitarian, social, emotional and environmental concerns.
The band
has received multiple Juno Awards and was inducted into the
Rush has 24
gold records and 14 platinum records placing Rush fifth in place, behind the
Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Kiss and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold
and platinum albums. The band also falls
77th on the list in US albums sales.
They are tied with Nirvana, ZZ Top and Faith Hill, says the RIAA.
An indoor
arena in
Built in
1999, the facility cost $84 million and seats 18,000 guests for basketball and
16,500 for arena football, as well as 56 luxury suites.
Also used
for music concerts, the arena can seat anywhere from 7,500, for a half stage
setup, to 17,221 for end stage shows with a maximum of 17,805 for a center
stage show.
