Diskeeper CEO Interviewed by the Wall Street Transcript

In a rare interview conducted by the Wall Street Transcript, Diskeeper® Corporation CEO, Craig Jensen, candidly discussed how the problem of fragmentation(1) has moved from the IT area to become a core business issue:

"Fragmentation actually exists. It's a real problem... And it's so
simple and so inexpensive to do something about it and restore the
full performance of all the computers in your company, that it's a
crime to not do so. IDC analysts report that corporations are
losing as much as $50 billion per year as a result of not using a
defragmenter on every server and workstation." -- Craig Jensen

"Fragmentation" is a computer disease whose common symptoms include sluggish load times, stability problems and random freezes. Heavy fragmentation can cause Microsoft® Word to slow down by 15x, Explorer by 2x and Outlook by 3x.(2) It is the mission of Diskeeper Corporation's number one automatic defragmenter to eradicate these delays, thereby increasing the productivity and efficiency of enterprises worldwide.

"Computers are becoming a commodity and the problems of computer
systems and production and performance are moving out of the data
center and into the boardroom. A CEO or a CFO or a CIO needs to be
aware of what's going on in the computer area of his company because
so much more depends upon it than ever before."

Notes:

1. Fragmentation: a condition caused by users constantly writing, deleting and resizing their computer files on the disk. This causes the files to be become scattered or "fragmented" into many pieces. The more fragmented these pieces are, the longer it takes the computer to read the files from the disk. Fragmentation is a major cause of performance degradation on computers.

2. Performance figures based on "The Impact of Disk Fragmentation" white paper by monitoring and security expert, Joe Kinsella.
