Youth Summer Camps Teach Real-life Skills To Young Students

SuperCamp believes a student is never too young to start learning practical skills

While all youth summer camps are about having fun, there’s one youth program where the fun is combined with learning. In fact, the mantra at SuperCamp’s 7-day Youth Forum held this summer at Cal State San Marcos, near San Diego, California is “Learning is Fun.” Youth Forum is for boys and girls entering 4th and 5th grades in the fall.

At Youth Forum, kids learn practical skills in such areas as reading speed and comprehension, creative writing, memorization, note-taking, study techniques, test-taking, problem solving, and critical thinking. Another important part of SuperCamp’s Youth Forum involves interaction with others in the form of relationship building, teamwork, communication, expressing feelings, and conflict resolution. The kids live in the college dorms for the seven days, which further helps to develop their interpersonal skills.

“Youth Forum is a magical blend of games, music, celebration and challenging outdoor activities,” says Bobbi DePorter, who is President of Quantum Learning Network. “The children who attend have so much fun, make new friendships, and gain a love of learning that can last a lifetime.”

DePorter goes on to explain that the “secret ingredient” that makes Youth Forum so successful is the many “success moments” that the SuperCamp staff orchestrate during the session for each child. As a result, the children leave at the end of the seven days with a true feeling of accomplishment and confidence in their ability to succeed at anything they put their minds to.

Founded 26 years ago by Bobbi DePorter, a pioneer in accelerated learning, SuperCamp teaches the whole person and contains specific core elements that when used together, empower students to learn faster, retain the information better and enjoy the process. Evidence of the program’s success is found in a doctoral study of over 6,000 former SuperCamp participants, which showed that 73 percent of graduates improved their grades, 84 percent reported gaining self-esteem and 98 percent said they continued to use some or all of the skills they learned.
