Xstrata PLC (XTA) to Release Preliminary 2006 Earnings March 3

Xstrata PLC (LON:XTA) will release the preliminary earnings for 2006 on March 3.

A diversified mining group, Xstrata is focused on seven international commodity markets, copper, cooking oil, thermal coal, ferrochrome, nickel, vanadium and zinc, as well as smaller business in aluminum, recycling facilities and additional exposures to gold, lead, cobalt and silver through a suite of global minerals and metals processing technologies.

The company is organized into six global commodity businesses and a technology business.

Copper mining and processing facilities are located in Australia, Chile, Peru, Argentina and Canada.  There are over 30 operating coal mines in Australia, Peru, South Africa and Columbia.

The company acquired Falconbridge Limited, Tintaya copper mine in Peru on during the year ended December 31, 2006 as well as 33.33% interest in the Cerrejon coal operation in Columbia.

Xstrata Aluminum, consisting of the company’s aluminum interests, was released to Apollo Management LP in April 2007.
