A Dutch tourist believes that she spotted Madeleine McCann in France. The woman says she seen the missing 4-year-old at a restaurant. She says that she recognized Madeleine because of the child’s highly publicized disappearance. When the tourist called out Madeleine’s name, but the man with the child left before they could photograph the girl.
“She and a friend saw a child that they immediately took to be Madeleine. They actually called out her name,” said the McCann’s family spokesman Clarence Mitchell. “A man who was with the child scooped the child up and took her out of the café before the girls could take a photograph with their mobile phones.”
Madeleine went missing from her parent’s holiday apartment in Portugal on May 3, 2007. Several people have come forward to say they have spotted Madeleine in various countries. Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, are official suspects in her disappearance. They have denied any involvement and insist their daughter was abducted.
Police say the girl spotted in France is not Madeleine. They have reviewed footage from a surveillance camera at the restaurant and have confirmed that although the child does resemble Madeleine, it is not her.
