Lynyrd Skynyrd to Perform Live at Raley Field July 11

Lynyrd Skynyrd will be performing live at Raley Field July 11 at 7:00 pm.

A Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd gained popularity in the 1970 with Ronnie Van Zant as the group’s lead vocalist and song writer. Zant tragically died in a plane crash in 1977 with guitar player Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines.

Basing the name on Leonard Skinner, a gym teacher at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville Florida, Lynyrd Skynyrd was a critically acclaimed southern rock group in the 1970’s and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006.

The band’s most popular songs include “Free Bird” and "Sweet Home Alabama” which are now considered to be American anthems and must haves for FM radio.

Home of the Sacramento River Cats of the Pacific Coast League for minor league baseball, Raley Field is located in West Sacramento, California where an old warehouse and railyards used to stand.

Costing $29.5 million, construction for the stadium was complete in eight and a half months.  It opened on May 15, 2000.

The venue holds 11,093 permanent seats and general admission areas to the left and right for a total capacity of 14,111.
