Larry Davis Stabbed to Death in Prison

Larry Davis, the man who wounded six New York police officers during a shootout in 1986, was stabbed to death while serving time at Shawangunk prison in upstate New York.

According to reports Davis suffered multiple stab wounds after being attacked during a recreational break late Wednesday evening. The 41-year-old Davis had wounds to the head, neck, arms, back, chest and upper thigh.

Davis gained national attention in 1986 after police tried to arrest him for killing five drug dealers. When police arrived at his apartment he instigated a gunfight and wounded six officers before escaping out a window.

It would be another 17 days before he would be caught and at his trial he was acquitted of attempted murder and aggravated assault but was convicted on a weapons charge.

Davis had been serving 25 years to life for a murder charge unrelated to the police shooting.
