An earthquake with a 6.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Nevada Thursday. The tremblor hit close to Elko at 6:20 am PST.
The quake struck 6.2 miles below the earth's surface and the epicenter was 20 miles north-northwest of from Spruce, NV and 24 miles south of Wilkins, NV. It was centered near the Utah-Nevada state border.
The Nevada town of Wells suffered some significant damage, including a water main break that is causing some flooding in the area.
At least two buildings have been damaged in Wells, NV, including a partial roof collapse. A gas line also broke, leading to several small fires.
US Highway 93 from the Idaho border near Jackpot, NV to Wells, NV is closed as well.
The earthquake was felt across eastern Nevada, Utah and as far away as Southern California.
