Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to Perform at Madison Square Garden June 17

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be performing live Madison Square Garden on June 17 at 8:00 pm.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their first album in 1976 but did not gain recognition until 1977 after the re-release of the single “Breakdown,” which peaked at #40 on the charts in 78.  The band followed the album with Your Gonna Get It!, featuring “I Need to Know” and “Listen to Her Heart” which later became the band’s first gold album.   The band’s third album, Damn the Torpedoes quickly went platinum and featured the band’s breakthrough singes, “Don’t Do Me Like That” and “Refugee.”

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are spending 2008 on their North American Tour performing at venues across the United States and Canada.  Steve Windwood will open for every show.

Madison Square Garden (MSG), also known as The Garden, is a group of four arenas in New York City and the owner of many sports franchises that play at MSG.

The first two arenas opened on the Northeast corner of Madison Square on December 15, 1925.  A third was built on December 15, 1925 with a capacity of 17,000, on 50th Street and 8th Avenue.  The final venue was built on February 14, 1986 on 7th Avenue between 31strd Streets, on top of Pennsylvania Station. and 33

The arenas are operated by Madison Square Garden LP which is a subsidiary of Cablevision (NYSE:CVC).
