Massive snowstorms in the Northeast has cancelling school districts and flights Friday.
The National Weather Service said six to nine inches of snow have accumulated in parts of the New York metropolitan area.
The Federal Aviation Administration said snow and ice was causing delays of nearly seven hours on flights to Newark International Airport.
Delays ranged from three hours to nearly six hours for flights headed to John F. Kennedy (JFK) and LaGuardia airports in New York and to Philadelphia International Airport.
Philadelphia International Airport has had 27 percent of its flights canceled, said a spokesperson for the airport, which averages more than 1,200 flights a day.
Logan International Airport in Boston is expected to suffer delays as well.
The School District of Philadelphia announced that school closings will start at noon, cancelling all afternoon programs. The school closings will affect all public and parochial schools.
The school closings have extended across state lines to South Jersey as schools in Mercer and Morris Counties, NJ are closed.
