Japan Launches “Super High-Speed Internet” Satellite

A rocket carrying technology that promises to deliver “super high-speed Internet” service was launched from Japan’s Yoshinobu Launch Complex on Saturday.

The satellite, part of a joint program created by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, boasts new technology that will reportedly surpass the speed currently offered by Internet services.

Known as the WINDS satellite, the service “will make possible great advances in telemedicine, which will bring high-quality medical treatment to remote areas, and in distance education, connecting students and teachers separated by great distances,” according to a JAXA news release.
