Ralph Nader Announces Presidential Bid on Meet the Press

Independent candidate Ralph Nader announced that he will be entering the 2008 presidential race on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday.

The 73-year-old Nader reasoned that the American people are still frustrated with the same two-party system that has held a strangle hold on the presidency and government which has led to a general neglect against corporate crime and labor rights.

Many Democrats fear Nader’s decision could cause a serious blow to their hopes at capturing the White House. In 2000 Nader was seen as the main culprit in Democrat Al Gore’s loss to Republican George W. Bush.

The Democratic Party is still in the process of identifying who their candidate will be for the presidential election and with Nader now on the map it could cause further problems for a party struggling to come together.

Nader appeared unmoved about how his decision would affect the Democrats saying Barack Obama’s “better instincts and his knowledge have been censored by himself.” The famed consumer advocate also took a shot at Republican frontrunner John McCain saying the 71-year-old was the “candidate for perpetual war.”
