Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to Perform the Prudential Center June 18

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be performing live at the Prudential Center in Newark on June 18 at 8:00 pm.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their first album in 1976 but did not gain recognition until 1977 after the re-release of the single “Breakdown,” which peaked at #40 on the charts in 78.  The band followed the album with Your Gonna Get It!, featuring “I Need to Know” and “Listen to Her Heart” which later became the band’s first gold album.   The band’s third album, Damn the Torpedoes quickly went platinum and featured the band’s breakthrough singes, “Don’t Do Me Like That” and “Refugee.”

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are spending 2008 on their North American Tour performing at venues across the United States and Canada.  Steve Windwood will open for every show.

Also known as “The Rock” and “Pru Center,” The Prudential Center is located in Newark, New Jersey.  The multi-purpose indoor arena is the home of the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League, the New Jersey Ironmen of the Major Indoor Soccer League and the Seton Hall Pirates, a men’s basketball team.

Just a couple of blocks from Newark Penn Station in Newark’s Ironbound district, the arena can accommodate 17,625.  Triangle Park will now connect the venue to the train providing easy access through New Jersey Transit, PATH, Newark Light Rail and Amtrak.
