Barack Obama Called “Hope of the Entire World” by Louis Farrakhan

Addressing a crowd of nearly 20,000 gathered at the annual Saviors’ Day, Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan dedicated much of his two-hour speech lauding Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and called the Illinois senator the “hope of the entire world.”

Farrakhan drew comparisons between Obama and Frad Muhammad, founder of the Nation of Islam, noting that both had a white mother and black father and were able to attract people of all colors to a positive message. The 74-year-old Farrakhan said “A black man with a white mother became a savior to us. A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall.”

While the words were clearly meant as support the Obama campaign was sure to keep its distance from any clear alliance with the controversial Farrakhan. According to the senator’s campaign spokesman Bill Burton, “Sen. Obama has been clear in his objections to Minister Farrakhan's past pronouncements and has not solicited the minister's support.”
