On Monday morning, Los Angeles Lakers starting center Andrew Bynum had his right knee drained in hopes that he will be able to help the Lakers effectively compete against the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals series (which starts on Thursday, June 3). Bynum has been limited during the playoffs since he tore his meniscus during a game against the Thunder. Even so, he helped the Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Finals. But, "It was just getting worse," Bynum said. "The swelling wasn't leaving so we had to do it ... I was doing the treatment, but [the swelling] wasn't going anywhere like in the previous three rounds so I just had to drain it." As the Lakers prepare to face the very talented Celtics, who nearly swept the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals, it is important that the Lakers are at the top of their game. Lakers coach Phil Jackson said, "I expect that [Bynum]'s going to come out and give us some really good minutes. It may not be heavy minutes, but I think he'll give us some good minutes. He's got some effective things that he's done against the Celtics over the course of the year." (Sources: ESPN.com)
