One summer camp is helping students
prepare for college well before they reach their senior year of high school. At
SuperCamp’s 10-day learning and life skills academic summer camps,
students entering grades 9 through 12 learn valuable real-life skills that help
prepare them for the next level in school and in life.
In fact, 73 percent of SuperCamp
graduates report achieving higher grades after attending the summer program. A
remarkable 98 percent of graduates indicate they continue to use the skills
they learned following camp, 84 percent say their self-esteem improved and 81
percent note an increase in confidence.
There are two reasons why SuperCamp
achieves these results, according to SuperCamp co-founder, Bobbi DePorter.
“First, at SuperCamp, kids learn how to learn. We give them the tools to
read and write better, study more effectively, and problem solve,” said
DePorter. “Second, we create a series of mini-success moments for each kid, so
they leave SuperCamp feeling more comfortable with whom they are and more
confident in their ability to succeed at anything they put their minds to.”
Based on accelerated learning
methods that Ms. DePorter first applied with entrepreneurs almost 30 years ago,
SuperCamp is an intensive residential summer program that has graduated over
45,000 students worldwide in its 25 years. In addition, DePorter’s company,
Quantum Learning Network, trains teachers in these same learning techniques in
schools throughout the United States.
SuperCamp will be held at nine U.S.
college campuses this summer, from Stanford University in the west to Brown in
the east. Other locations include, Loyola Marymount College in the Los Angeles
area, Cal State San Marcos in north San Diego County, Colorado College in
Colorado Springs, the University of Washington in Seattle, Wake Forest
University and Lake Forest Academy in Chicago, Illinois.
SuperCamp offers three
grade-specific programs: the 7-day Junior Forum for students
entering grades 6-8 in the fall, the 10-day Senior Forum for students entering grades
9-12 and Quantum U for incoming and current
college freshmen students. The dynamic learning environment is designed to
maximize long-term retention of the information provided.
